‘Makam’ is a musical term that defines the most fundamental characteristic of Turkish and Arabic music. The Hüzzam Makam, in particular, has been used in various forms of Turkish music. It possesses a religious, mystical and lyrical sentiment and generally evokes a melancholic atmosphere.

Last month, we listened to some very energetic music, filled with the songs of Turkish pop superstar Ajda Pekkan. In this month’s first post, however, we are slowing the tempo down considerably. We are listening to the slow and melancholic tones of the Hüzzam mode.
