“Suzidil Saz Semaisi” by Fahri Kopuz and Sedad Öztoprak is one of my favourite instrumental Turkish music pieces.
This week, I wanted to explore how the same piece can sound different when played on three different instruments.
In the first version, we hear master Necdet Yaşar perform “Suzidil Saz Semaisi” in the most traditional form of Turkish music.
In the second version, we hear Balarısı Ahmet, the leading harmonica player in Turkish music, performing the same song on the harmonica, accompanied by a guitarist.
The final version features the “Suzidil Saz Semai” performed in a manner consistent with traditional Turkish music. This time, however, it is played solely on the kanun, a beloved instrument of Turkish music.
Which version did you like best? Let us know in the comments.
