Turkish Music: “Gözlerin” – “Your Eyes”

This week, I would like to do something different. Instead of sharing three songs by the same artist, this time I will share three different songs by three different artists, all with the same title: “Gözlerin”.

Gözlerin means “Your Eyes”.

Zülfü Livaneli sings this wonderful melody with beautiful lyrics:

“Your eyes
Where dreams sparkle and fade away
Meeting you one evening
Hopeless songs, a half-melody on my lips
Taking refuge in your eyes, taking refuge one evening
Your eyes are a scream, a wounded cry
Your eyes are a ship passing far away tonight”

The song by the famous singer Alpay begins in this way:

“I would strum the strings of my guitar
Carefree
In every song that flew by
I would find another love
My life was aimless
Before I saw you
Not one, but a thousand loves
Had a place in my heart
My aimless heart got stuck
On your emerald green eyes
Your eyes, oh your eyes
Your green eyes are so beautiful” and continues…

Finally, Çelik concludes on a positive note:

“The days passed one by one
Only one thing remains in my mind
The days passed one by one
Only one thing remains in my mind
Neither outdated loves
Nor sleepless nights
Only one thing remains in my mind
Neither outdated loves
Nor sleepless nights
Only one thing remains in my mind
Your eyes, ah, those beautiful eyes
Your eyes, those eyes
Your eyes remain in my mind”
